Gist reviews apetito’s supply chain

Supply chain specialist Gist has conducted a capacity review for European frozen food supplier apetito.

apetito’s distribution activities operate out of a national customer service centre in Bristol. The operation includes an automated high-bay bulk store serviced by cranes and now dated conveyor systems.

Working alongside the apetito team, Gist conducted a capacity review that will enable apetito to extract the maximum benefit from their warehousing operations. Although the existing operation is capable of meeting current demand, the company wants to ensure the best solutions are in place to accommodate their future growth plans without incurring additional cost.

A team of Gist supply chain experts worked with the apetito team to provide an insight into the capability, longevity, efficiency and productivity that could be expected from the existing automated crane store and to identify the areas where current business practices are limiting performance and how to change them.

The knowledge gathered on apetito’s current operation was used to build a model that demonstrated the range of constraints, costs, service levels and capacities possible both now and in the future. The team then outlined recommendations to address and improve the operation.

Neil Emery, head of customer service and distribution at apetito, said: “Gist quickly understood the nature of the challenges we faced and were able to cut through to the facts incisively. Their expertise has given us a clear view of the life of our current storage arrangement and some clear and practical ideas on how we can extend it.”

Mike Flynn, business solutions director at Gist, added: “Gist’s consulting capability means that our teams can provide expert supply chain advice that delivers companies with strategies and realistic insights to get more out of their supply chain.”
