Comet and Wincanton have proposed closing Comet’s Corby distribution centre, operated by DHL, putting up to 130 jobs at risk.
The electronics retailer announced last week that it had extended its contract with Wincanton to take over its entire distribution operation.
Following Comet’s strategic review, the two firms have proposed closing the Corby site, in order and transferring its warehouse operations to Wincanton’s Skelmersdale facility.
A Comet spokesperson said that it was too early to estimate when the Corby site will close. It is currently still run by the original DHL employees, with some additional staff from Wincanton.
DHL said: “Affected staff have been advised of the situation and will shortly enter into consultation with the company and elected representatives. Wherever possible, DHL will work with those affected to identify opportunities elsewhere within the DHL business.”
