DFDS has sold its Maasvlakte terminal at the Port of Rotterdam to the Rhenus Group.
The transaction was concluded today, and The Rhenus Group will take over operation of the terminal and its 32 staff today.
Following the acquisition of Norfolk Line in 2010, DFDS was in possession of two fully equipped ro-ro terminals in Rotterdam, the former Norfolk Line terminal in Vlaardingen and the DFDS terminal in Maasvlakte.
The Maasvlakte terminal developed as a break-bulk terminal, handling growing volumes of commodities such as steel, wood, bricks and project cargo. However these activities are not DFDS’ core activity so DFDS decided to sell it.
DFDS has concentrated its ro-ro freight activities in Vlaardingen, which is situated closer to the motorway network and also accommodates other activities.
