UPS has purchased 150 CV-23 plastic-bodied delivery trucks which are 40 per cent more fuel efficient than the traditional UPS P70 diesel vehicles.
The composite cars weigh some 400kg less than the previous P70 trucks, and will be deployed in the fourth quarter of 2012.
The CV-23 has150-horsepower, an Isuzu four-cylinder diesel engine and a six-speed Aisin automatic transmission. The engine is smaller than a traditional UPS diesel engine with the goal that the smaller engine will use less fuel during daily operations.
UPS had run trials in five extreme markets for a year from April 2011.
