The British International Freight Association says it had a positive meeting with HMRC to discuss proposals covering the movement of goods to Enhanced Remote Transit Sheds.
It has been lobbying against the proposals which it believes could lead to longer clearance times and increased costs.
Following the meeting with HMRC, BIFA said both parties were now seeking short and long-term solutions that would create a platform to be used when the Union Customs Code is implemented later this decade.
