UPS buys pharma logistics firm

UPS has announced it will acquire Hungary-based pharmaceutical logistics company Cemelog in order to strengthen its healthcare business in Europe, as part of a global growth and investment strategy.

Cemelog helps healthcare clients across Central and Eastern Europe maximise supply chain efficiencies, meet regulatory requirements and deliver products securely.

“This acquisition is a continuation of our ongoing growth strategy across our business units… It will position us well to meet the needs of healthcare companies in a key geographic location as they strive to regionalise logistics operations as a way to increase efficiencies,” said Scott Davis, UPS chairman and chief executive.

Cemelog’s three facilities totalling 258,000 sq ft will bring UPS’s European healthcare distribution space to a total of nearly six and a half million sq ft.

The deal is expected to come to a close in the second quarter of this year.
