Industrial trucks escape WEEE directive

The British Industrial Truck Association (BITA) says that the forthcoming Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) directive will not apply to industrial truck supplied in the UK.

According to BITA, Directive 2002/95/EC “The Restriction of the use of certain hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment (RoHS)” only applies to hazardous substances used in the manufacture of products listed in Annex 1 of the WEEE directive.

Annex 1 of the WEEE Directive covers:

Large and small household appliances.

IT and telecommunications equipment.

Consumer equipment.

Lighting equipment.

Electrical and electronic tools, excluding large-scale stationary industrial tools.

Medical devices, excluding all implanted and infected products.

Toys, leisure and sports equipment.

Monitoring and control instruments.

Automatic dispensers.
