Reformatting its warehousing around one new electric Bendi forklift has enabled Whyteleafe-based Maxon Tiles to gain maximum storage capacity, without compromising truck versatility, and to dispense with two reach trucks. The articulated Bendi was supplied by Translift.
Maxon, a ceramic tile wholesaler to independents, hotels and builders in the South-east, has a 20% annual growth target over recent years and expects that to accelerate following its recent takeover by Saint-Gobain. The anticipated growth creates logistics pressures such as lack of storage space.
To overcome this problem, Maxon has reduced aisle widths from 3m to 2m to gain substantially more storage. Maxon director Robert Haydock says storage will be doubled when a unit acquired next door has the dividing wall removed and is formatted in the same way to allow the Bendi operation.
Maxon’s Bendi will lift 1,675kg to 3.3m or 1,225kg to 6.6m. It also occasionally works outside loading and unloading delivery vehicles.
