Consolidation leads to improved delivery

Global logistics provider Kuehne + Nagel (K+N) has renewed a contract with Poole Lighting to take care of its inbound logistics from the Far East. K+N has worked with Poole Lighting, which supplies major DIY and high street retailers in the UK, since 2001.

Originally Poole Lighting employed K+N to assist when it moved its UK production to two core sites in China. The company was concerned about controlling its inbound logistics accurately and in a timely fashion in order to keep its UK warehouse replenished. At the same time it was looking at increasing its Far East supplier base, all of which K+N has helped it to achieve successfully.

K+N’s IT solution, KNLogin, has been invaluable to Poole Lighting. In addition to being ensured of complete visibility throughout the supply chain, its data extract function is used to issue container delivery requirements to its contract haulier. In order to provide a continuous supply of products and operational flexibility K+N also organises delivery to Poole Lighting on a drop and swap basis.

Tesco is using supply chain specialist Lex Logistics to support the replenishment of the supermarket chain’s Midlands regional Metro stores. The short-term contract covers the provision of 4,650sq m of warehousing and trailer space at Lex Logistics’ facility at Crick, Northamptonshire.

The contract enables Tesco to benefit from an improved distribution service to stores through consolidation of inbound delivery more, more precise delivery times and improved use of transport.

lLex Logistics has also secured a five-year deal with BMC (UK), which imports and distributes a range of vehicles produced in Turkey by BMC Sanayi ve Ticaret. The contract covers a wide range of services including inventory ownership, order fulfilment, warehousing and distribution.
