Replacement fleet optimises efficiency

Parcels company Lynx Express is investing more than £6M in a new vehicle replacement programme during 2005. The Nuneaton-based company has taken delivery of 30 ERF EC11 tractor units and an additional 44 Daf tractor units will be delivered over the next few months

Lynx has a fleet of about 250 tractor units as well as between 200-250 company-owned vans, complementing the 1,000 plus owner-driver delivery vehicle fleet. These comprise a mix of 7.5 tonne rigid vans, Mercedes-Benz Sprinters and Ford Transits.

The company is also scheduled to replace more than 100 of the 7.5 tonne rigids in this part of the fleet with a mix of Iveco and Daf vehicles.

Andrew Hill, Lynx director of central services, comments: “The aim is to continually enhance efficiency and our objective will be to consistently maintain our replacement cycle at an optimum level. We examine the full life cost of vehicles, selecting the vehicle type and replacement timescales using this model.”

In addition to the new tractor units and rigids ordered, the company is taking on 100-plus new trailers this year.
