Major fleet expansion for grocery service

Ocado, the online grocery service for Waitrose delivering direct to shoppers’ doorsteps, is contract hiring nearly 330 specially adapted Mercedes-Benz commercial vehicles, including 318 Sprinter vans with CDI chassis cabs, from Mercedes-Benz CharterWay in a deal worth more than £9.5M. The vehicles comprise a bespoke body designed to accommodate Ocado’s “unique” racking requirements.

Together with Waitrose and John Lewis Partnership, Ocado currently covers 40% of the UK with its online grocery service, serving major towns and cities including London and all of the South-east, Manchester, Rugby and the surrounding area. Its fleet makes up to 30 deliveries a day.
