Nightfreight has acquired three sites in the South West and is investing some £3 million in a new fleet of 45 vehicles and upgrades to the sites, which are located in Bridgwater, Dawlish and Saltash.

Local customers will now have access to a range of services including home delivery, contract logistics and Nightfreight’s pay-as-you-go service.

The carrier is also implementing local customer care centres based at each depot.

Peter Louden, Nightfreight managing director, said: “The operations were previously owned by Rainbow, a service provider to Nightfreight, and the decision to make this acquisition is in line with the company’s policy to offer clients strong national coverage and a wide range of services to meet their requirements.”

All 120 employees have transferred over and an additional 12 jobs have been created. An intensive training programme is being provided, along with the opportunity to take NVQ qualifications.
