This is the twelfth daily service Freightliners operates from Southampton to destinations in Birmingham, Cardiff, Coatbridge, Daventry, Doncaster, Leeds, Liverpool and Manchester.

Kevin Whitmore, Allport operations director, said: “Over half of our container deliveries have been transferred to rail, and we continue to work with the rail industry to develop strategic solutions as an alternative to road transport.”

Adam Cunliffe, managing director of Freightliner, added: “In addition to increasing our service offering to the Midlands, this daily train has additional capacity available for intermodal customers.”
