Yodel expects to deliver 75,000 bunches of flowers for Valentine’s Day this year – double the normal volume.

Yodel clients include the UK’s largest independent internet flower delivery service, Serenataflowers.com and the carrier has special capability to handle delicate items such as bouquets, which cannot go through the usual parcel sorting process. A record proportion of bouquets will be ordered through the internet this year, sparking the delivery boom.

It also expects to deliver nearly 50% more boxes of chocolates than a normal week.

Yodel chief Jonathan Smith said: “The difficult economic times don’t seem to be dampening our romantic nature.  Many of our clients expect to ship more flowers and chocolates than ever this year, and our drivers will be playing Cupid to thousands of Valentines.
