Davies Turner has completed a multi-million pound expansion at its hub in Avonmouth, Bristol, to incorporate a newly built distribution centre alongside the existing transit facility.

The additional space includes 21 loading doors and can hold close to 11,000 standard pallets in high bay racking. The site occupies more than 250,000 sq ft.

Davies Turner took into account the environmental implications when designing the extended hub, which has been built on reclaimed industrial land.

All water run-off from the site is now collected in an underground reservoir before it is cleansed and released into the local drainage systems.

The distribution centre will not to be heated as it has been installed with a sophisticated insulation and ventilation system, in addition to an alternative air-cooling system, which is designed to consume less than half the electricity.

Light level and movement detectors have also been fitted to switch off lights in unoccupied offices, and solar and timer-controlled lighting has been installed externally.
