Freightliner and GE Transport have given a sneak preview of the of the new PowerHaul locomotive being developed for the UK market at the InnoTrans show in Berlin. The loco holds out the promise of higher payloads and greater fuel efficiency.
The operator has ordered 30 locomotives and the first are due to be delivered in late 2009.
"The project is on track to deliver increased hauling capacity and a significant improvement in fuel economy and we are extremely pleased with the development to date of these locomotives," said Freightliner’s engineering director Tim Shakerley.
