Unipart Retail Logistics (URL), part of the Unipart Group of Companies, has expanded its relationship with Boots through an additional contract for distribution services. Unipart Logistics already has a ten-year contract to manage two Boots’ distribution centres.
As part of the new contract, URL is managing several support functions for Boots’ distribution operations. Around 100 employees have transferred over to URL.
Unipart is managing returning loads and outbound trailer consolidation; the pallet pool; and recycling and container management for operations at the main distribution centres in Nottingham.
Unipart’s relationship with Boots began in May 2003 when Unipart Retail Logistics took over the management of one of the central warehouses based at Boots’ headquarters. This extension is part of Boots’ strategic objective to reengineer its supply chain.
Commenting on the contract win, Mark Franklin, director and general manager of URL, says: “Wining these new contracts will enable Unipart Retail Logistics to give an even greater level of service to Boots and to introduce Unipart’s systems of continuous improvement and knowledge management into these important areas. The new business further strengthens our growing partnership with Boots, and we are delighted to have this additional opportunity to deliver value to our customer.” The new contract runs alongside existing contracts until 2014.
