Supply chain visibility proves a winner

Rensow Patisserie, a leading premium chocolate pudding brand, has enlisted Culina Logistics to provide a complete storage and distribution service for its luxury desserts. London-based Rensow, which launched onto the UK market in May 2003, produces a wide range of rich smooth mousses, truffles, soufflés, torte and compotes presented in stylish packaging.

Culina is providing a nationwide shared-user, 24-hour logistics service for Rensow, with product being stored at its distribution centre in Milton Keynes. Around 11,500 cases are distributed a week, with Culina handling 350 orders per week to 85 drop points, including the regional distribution centres of nine leading supermarket multiples across the country.

Orders are received by electronic data interchange (EDI) then picked and despatched within 24 hours. Pick accuracy is achieved using handheld radio data transfer (RDT) scanners and complete supply chain visibility is afforded throughout the process via a secure customer website.

In addition to the major multiples, the desserts are also a favourite with retailers such as Selfridges, Harvey Nichols, Fortnum & Mason and Harrods, which are supplied via wholesalers.
