Innovative flexibility key

High street fashion retailer New Look has contracted DTS Logistics to manage its new 37,200sq m automated national distribution centre at Newcastle-under-Lyme, which is expected to start operating in Autumn 2005.

DTS will manage the transport and distribution operation on a hub and spoke basis with additional outbases strategically located nationwide. DTS says such a system will provide a high quality delivery network for the New Look.

The distribution centre features automated distribution conveyors covering more than 16km, overhead garment transport systems, sortation systems for hanging garments, mini load storage and retrieval, and crane pallet handling systems and conveyors. There are also three levels of offices, ten inbound and 11 outbound docks, internal mezzanines on two additional working levels, and high cube use with floor to eaves racked storage.

Alan Osborne, operations director at New Look, says: “We chose DTS Logistics as our partner because of its accessible management: their innovative flexible style and the capability of the management team.”
