Mace, a leading construction and project management company, has chosen Linde Material Handling as its preferred supplier of materials handling equipment for one of its most ambitious and controversial projects – London Heathrow’s Terminal 5.
Linde Material Handling South East, based in Camberley, Surrey, has delivered more than 40 units of materials handling equipment to the 260-hectare site which, when fully completed in 2011, will be able to serve around 30 million passengers a year.
The materials handling equipment package requested by Mace represents an integral part of the site development as it provides the fundamental tools for the execution of the construction work.
The Linde fleet supplied includes 20 H 25 T 2.5-tonne capacity hydrostatic forklifts; 15 N 20 2.0-tonne capacity low level order pickers primarily for moving partition board used in final construction; and five Linde P 60 Z 6-tonne capacity tow tractors to remove waste from the site.
The Linde H 25 Ts models are being used for general moving and lifting of construction material.
As a result the forklift models feature slinging points so that they can be transferred by crane to the various levels of the construction site on demand.
This has been achieved by using a specifically designed lifting frame which attaches to anchored bolts fitted into the truck’s chassis.
