Manugistics Group says that Chep, the pallet and container pooling specialist, has purchased an enterprise license to use it solutions worldwide. This recent agreement is an extension of the companies’ four-year strategic partnership. Deltion has launched a new version of its advanced real-time CarrierNet solution which is dedicated specifically to the needs of the parcels sector. The new solution is highly configurable and suitable for single depot carriers, hub and spoke networks, distributed multi-depot networks, or hybrid networks. The fully web-driven solution incorporates access by customers, depots, drivers and suppliers, removing the need for companies to have multiple solutions to handle different parts of the operation.
Unipart Logistics, Intermec Technologies and SAP have opened the world’s first logistics centre dedicated to improving business process through the use of Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology at Unipart’s distribution facility in Oxford. The facility, called the Global Enterprise Model (GEM), developed and perfected over five years, is a 3D, large-scale model to replicate the end-to-end supply chain, linking raw material supplier to the final customer.
Mike Elsom, managing director of Sea and Water, the UK national body charged with encouraging freight off the highly congested road network and onto the environmentally-friendly and sustainable modes of short sea, coastal and inland shipping, has taken over the chairmanship of the European Shortsea Network (ESN). The chairmanship rotates with the EU presidency but the UK’s term will be extended by a further three months to cover part of Austria’s presidency, which begins in January 2006.
