More than 1,000 tonnes of fruit a day are being distributed to Asda stores across the UK from a new refrigerated site at Normanton. The 18,600sq m warehouse was bought from Britvic four years ago and let to Asda for three years for temporary use.
Following Asda’s vacation, industrial property specialist Gent Visick was instructed to market the partially racked unit at a quoting rent of £1M a year and agreed a ten-year letting with International Produce, part of Geest. International Produce has a deal with Asda nationally to supply all its imported fruit produce.
The site is one of two in England which supplies eight Asda distribution centres across the UK with fruit daily. Around 24,000 cases of fruit leave the premises daily, depending on store demand.
