Ingenia Technology has launched a new technology which could confirm the identity of goods in a global supply chain and so help prevent counterfeit.
The track and trace security and verification system, called the Laser Surface Authentication System (LSA) works through reading the surface of the inherent structure of paper and other surfaces. A unique ‘fingerprint’, with the accuracy of DNA, can be formed by the differentiation of microscopic surface imperfections which can be used to detect the identity of counterfeit products.
This applies to almost all documents and forms of packaging. The inherent identity code is impossible to replicate and can be easily read using a low-cost portable laser scanner.
