Spicers orders six EGR tractor units from MAN

Office products wholesaler Spicers, has taken delivery of six MAN TGA 18.444 tractor units for its in-house fleet.

The trucks feature 440bhp D20 EGR Euro 4 engines, MAN TopMatic automatic gearboxes and ‘L’ sleeper cabs. The Sawston based company said the EGR engine technology was instrumental in the decision. They were chosen to help the wholesaler meet its environmental policy.

Head of transport Nigel Jakubowski, said: “We were AdBlue sceptics from the outset, but we still needed to satisfy ourselves as to the claimed economy of AdBlue. We trailled it against a MAN, and the MAN emerged head and shoulders above the AdBlue-equipped truck.

The MAN’s provide us with the option to convert to dual fuel, and we will be looking at this seriously in the next 12 months. We also look to recycle our trucks at the end of their working lives, and I’m pleased that the MANs offer a high percentage of recyclable parts.”
