Steve de Croos recently completed an apprenticeship with Kuehne + Nagel and now works as assistant to the regional overland director for North West Europe. He initially joined the company as a temporary warehouse worker in 2004, and has come a long way since then thanks to the training scheme. His current role requires extensive travel around the UK, Ireland, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, and Finland.
The scheme gave de Croos the opportunity to experience how different functions in the logistics field worked at an operational level, and to complete a diploma which gave an insight into how the total supply chain works and reacts.
“The knowledge and experience that I gained over the two years were fundamental to achieving my current position. The apprenticeship scheme opened opportunities that would not usually be attainable,” says de Croos.
The CILT qualifications greatly assist in understanding the jargon and theories behind logistics. The company also provides a range of courses from IT to dangerous goods training and offers employment opportunities in all areas of logistics, at home and abroad. Katie Herdman has worked for Kuehne + Nagel for seven years as human resources manager for the UK. Previously, she worked for British Airways as an in-house recruitment consultant. She is an A grade graduate of the Chartered Institute of Personnel Development, with more than 15 years generalist experience in all major human resources activities.
