Kuehne + Nagel in Pall-Ex deal

Kuehne + Nagel is providing a continental pallet distribution service for Pall-Ex. The service will run five nights a week to some 30 destinations around Europe.

This agreement builds on an existing relationship between the two companies. It uses the European groupage network launched by K+N last year which links 38 countries via one central and seven regional hubs. K+N has ambitions to be a market leader in European road transport.

* Kuehne + Nagel has reported sales up 15.3 per cent 21 billion Swiss Francs and operating profit (EBITDA) up 18.3 per cent to 6bn Swiss Francs for 2007.

Sales in contract logistics were up 19.1 per cent and operating margin was up from 4.8 per cent to 5.2 per cent. IN the road and rail logistics sector, sales rose 14 per cent but operating profit was down 11 per cent, the result of investment to expand operations.

Airfreight exceeded expectations with volumes up 14 per cent and operating margin rising from 4.9 per cent to 5.9 per cent. It said intensified sales activity, cross-selling and product improvements accounted for the rise.

The Seafreight business also performed strongly with volumes rising 15 per cent to more than 2.6 million TEUs. Margins, at 4.4 per cent wee virtually unchanged.
