The Swedish Mail (Posten) has placed an order with Siemens Mobility for an energy-saving flats sorting machine.
The Open Mail System is designed to process up to 50,000 items of mail per hour, and is scheduled to go into operation in October 2010.
Siemens says that the integration of new automation technology into a multi-function system makes the new sorting machine “the fastest in the world”.
The machines are reckoned to be capable of reducing energy consumption by 20 per cent compared to conventional models.
