NYK Logistics has won an award for the Best Health and Safety Achievement in Transport & Logistics from the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health.
NYK had made a number of changes which led to winning the award, including: changing driver behaviour by raising awareness of everyday hazards, working closely with union and safety representatives, improving driver training and induction and reducing accidents.
These initiatives have resulted in a 44 per cent reduction in the number of accidents per million kilometres (620,000 miles) driven, 48 per cent fewer collisions and a 64 per cent drop in incidents while reversing.
