Cut road not rail, says Rail Freight Group
The Rail Freight Group has called on the government to drop plans to upgrade the A14, a major strategic route that links Felixstowe to the Midlands as well as providing access to the A1 and M1.
It says the money should be used to upgrade the rail route from Felixstowe to Nuneaton instead.
The new coalition government plans to cut £683m from the transport budget. Maggie Simpson, policy manager for the RFG, said: “In today’s cash constrained environment we have to question whether expensive schemes such as this massive road scheme are really the right way to go.”
