Pub group JD Wetherspoon is looking at ways of increasing capacity in its supply chain to meet its target of adding 200 new pubs to its estate of 800 by 2014.
It called in consultants Davies & Robson to evaluate a series of options. Graham Simpson, distribution and purchasing manager for JD Wetherspoon said: “It was important to get an alternative view as we look at our options for growth over the next five to ten years. Davies and Robson provided the due diligence needed for us to make an informed decision while considering a variety of options and strategies”.
The existing distribution operation, managed by DHL Supply Chain, is based at a 170,000 sq ft national distribution centre at Daventry, but this is already operating at capacity during peak periods.
The project concluded that Wetherspoon should retain a warehouse in Daventry supported by a second site in the North West. both on a relative risk and a relative cost basis.
Davies & Robson also supplied recommendations for optimising the layout of the Daventry facility to increase capacity to meet the short term needs of the business.
