Toyota Motor Europe has set up a joint project with Evelop Belgium to install wind turbines on the grounds of its vehicle logistics centre in Belgium.
Toyota will lease a portion of the vehicle logistics centre’s grounds for the installation of two wind turbines, which are expected to begin operation in early 2013. Each turbine will generate some 3 MW, with an annual combined capacity of approximately 17.1 GWh.
And in a project in the UK, Toyota Motor Manufacturing is to start a project to harvest solar power starting at the end of July.
Other TME environmental activities include a “Sustainable Dealer Project” aimed at “greening” the approximately 3,000 Toyota dealers in Europe.
Last year, 312,800 solar panels were installed on the rooftop of the Toyota Parts Centre Europe. The array generates 1.62 GWh of electricity annually, equivalent to a 1,700 ton reduction in CO2 emissions and 15 to 20 per cent of the centre’s annual electricity consumption.
