Rail freight operator Freightliner in the UK, is investing in two replacement cranes at Southampton to boost reliability and support the forthcoming berth enhancements at the port.
The new cranes are due to be installed in August and will improve the lift rate with the capability to span 13 roads in comparison to the 7 roads that the existing cranes can handle.
It is envisaged that the cranes will eventually increase lift capacity by up to 80 per cent, although the overall capacity will be increased in stages.
Freightliner currently operates 14 daily round trip services from Southampton to ten inland terminals.
