Unilever reckons it has saved almost €70 million by converting half of its factories, 130 in 18 countries, to send no waste to landfill in 2012.
Under its Sustainable Living Plan, Unilever expects that by 2020, total waste sent for disposal will be at or below 2008 levels despite producing significantly higher volumes than at that time.
The firm is now bringing the 2020 commitment five years forward, so that all its 252 factories across the world will not send any non-hazardous waste to landfill by end of 2015.
