European road transport rates fell by 1.8 per cent between the third and fourth quarters of 2012, according to the Transport Market Monitor index produced by Capgemini and Transporeon.
And the fourth quarter TMM index, at 98.2, was down 2.4 per cent on a year ago.
After two quarters of price increases, transport rates decreased now due to increased capacity and lower fuel prices.
The diesel index was down one per cent to 109.2. The capacity index showed an 8.9 per cent increase to 95.0.
A further price decrease is expected in the first quarter of 2013 – largely as result of the seasonal pattern observed in previous years.
