Prologis has submitted revised plans for a 1 million sq ft plus warehouse in Widnes which had been rumoured to have been under offer to internet retail giant Amazon.
The development of the 1.2 million sq ft rail connected building was quashed by the High Court following a judicial review called by Hale Bank Parish Council which had stated that Halton Council had not consulted properly.
The effect of that decision is that the council is required to re-assess and re-determine the application. The submission has been updated having particular regard to environmental considerations, an amended site plan, an noise assessment.
The 79 acre site forms part of the 3MG Mersey Multimodal Gateway area, which is a key regeneration area for the Borough of Halton.
The Gateway is a public and private sector partnership which, when complete, will provide up to 3.5 million sq ft of warehousing, 5,000 new jobs and the reclamation of 200 acres of contaminated land.
Stobart Group has an adjoining scheme which could provide a further 1.4 million sq ft known as Stobart Park. It has detailed consent for a 1 million sq ft building with 40m eaves.
The Prologis building is expected to provide 1,000 new jobs.
