Logistics, transport and supply chain employers, from companies such as Yodel, Royal Mail and Asda, have come together to form the Smart Business Academy, hoping to improve the perception of careers in their sectors and create business growth and jobs.
They will collaborate to identify the skills requirements of the current and future workforce, to ensure they can attract and develop talent to fulfil business growth plans.
They are also hoping to deliver a programme of employer-led training and investment in skills across their industries through the Employer Ownership of Skills funding.
The list of contributing businesses also includes Arla Foods, Arriva, Bibby Distribution, Kuehne + Nagel, Sellafield, Stena Line, Stobart Group and TNT.
“The Smart Business Academy is a hugely exciting opportunity for major employers to collaborate to deliver tangible results for our businesses,” said Kate Willard, corporate affairs director at the Stobart Group.
Paul Byrne, development director, Bibby Distribution, added: “By working in partnership we have the ability to develop a robust and powerful framework to improve skills, enhance our workforce and create a sustainable pathway for careers in the logistics industry.”
