Home and leisure retailer The Range has launched a consultation on plans to build an 775,000 sq ft distribution centre in North West Chippenham. The site would also contain a 40,000 sq ft store.
The retailer plans to submit a planning application for the scheme on West Cepen Way in the autumn. It hopes to start building in May next year and open the facility in Spring 2016.
The company was founded in Plymouth by entrepreneur Chris Dawson and has grown to become a national brand selling mid-price home, leisure and garden products. It currently has 88 stores and plans to increase this to 200 over the next few years.
It already has a northern distribution centre near Doncaster and has been searching for the right location for a southern facility. It expects to create 1,000 jobs at Chippenham.
In the consultation, it said it expected 150 HGV movements to the distribution centre per day.
The development has been welcomed business leaders in Chippenham, though local newspaper the Wiltshire Gazette & Herald has reported protests from some residents.
The consultation runs until 1st August.
