Former development director Iain Speak has been appointed as chief operating officer at Bibby Distribution, the UK’s largest privately owned logistics specialist.
In a brief announcement, Bibby said that the move reflects a determination by the company to consolidate recent growth whilst preparing for further development in the future.
In his new role, Speak, who has been with the company for eight years, will be responsible for all operations and business development across Bibby Distribution’s 70 sites and 2,500 employees.
“These are exciting times for Bibby Distribution,” he said. “Over recent years the company has grown significantly through acquisition, organic growth and new business gains, and we are poised to launch a major new global venture early in 2006. Although the marketplace has hardened, Bibby Distribution has formulated a strong, ambitious development strategy and we are confident that we can continue to grow and increasingly challenge the major players.”
Speak will continue to report directly to Theo De Pencier, previously managing director of Bibby Distribution, who takes on the role of chief executive officer, focussing on strategy, further acquisition and new ventures.
