Primark’s new Lutterworth distribution centre will shortly become fully operational after it was devasted by a fire last year, costing £100m in damages. The new facility has cost £48m and is expected to go live in October, employing 450 staff.
TNT Fashion Group, has secured a seven year renewal to handle Primark’s new 430,000 sq ft flagship site at Magna Park.
TNT said that within 48 hours of the fire in November 2005, the distribution operation was back up and running with limited stock. TNT applauded its employees saying they were “undeterred by the devastating effects of the blaze” and quickly restored operations.
A spokesperson for TNT said that fire investigation teams are still investigating the cause of the blaze and reviewing evidence. At this time it is unclear whether the fire was accidental or deliberate.
A spokesperson confirmed that that at present the site is 85 per cent operational.
