Ford has chosen Penske Logistics to provide material planning and handling services at its Transit van plant in Southampton.
Ford produces some 80,000 Transit vans a year. Ford has a long-standing relationship with Penske in the United States.
Penske chief Erik van Egmond said: “We are very pleased to now be working with Ford Motor Company in Europe and we welcome into the Penske family the highly capable employees joining us from their previous contractor.”
Penske officially began material planning and handling operations at the Southampton facility in October.
Penske’s Bill Scroggie said: “We will leverage our expertise and draw upon Six Sigma and ISO standards to develop and deploy repeatable processes. The combination of these tools along with the local operating team will reduce costs, drive supply chain efficiencies and improve overall quality at the plant.”
