Trucks can run on low emission natural gas and reduce fuel costs at the same time, according to Clean Air Power. The Lancashire based company has developed dual-fuel technology, which enables heavy goods vehicles (HGVs) to run on a combination of natural gas, in particular bio methane, and bio gas. The company states that carbon dioxide emissions on a typical HGV can be reduced by 26 tonnes per year, making annual fuel cost savings of £17,000 per year.
Bio methane is generated from vegetable and animal waste matter. Clean Air Power’s own 1,600 dual-fuel vehicles are estimated to have saved around 50,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions.
