European logistics service provider for the book industry, Centraal Boekhuis, has implemented Ortec’s routeing and scheduling software Shortrec.
The company provides services for some 1,500 booksellers and 500 publishers and transports around 4.5 million packages a year.
Central Boekhuis previously used fixed routes, which project manager Jaco Wobma says was ineffective. “The trucks always used the same routes, irrespective of whether they were 70 or 100 per cent fully loaded.
“With Ortec Shortrec we have been able to reduce the number of routes, while ensuring that the trucks contain the optimum number of delivery packages. This also lowers the number of empty kilometres, which is turn allows us to reduce our carbon dioxide emissions.”
