Dematic will deliver its one-thousandth Multishuttle to a leading e-retailer of books, CDs, DVDs, and videos. The Multishuttle is a combined storage and transport system, designed to increase speeds, accuracy and throughput levels when picking, processing, consolidating and sequencing orders in distribution centres.
The system was introduced three years ago and was designed as a high-performance, cost-effective and flexible alternative to classic mini-load AS/RS systems. It was awarded the VDI Innovation Prize in 2004.
Tony Buckley, managing director of Dematic Northern Europe, said: “The strong demand from our customers is a clear demonstration that, with the Multishuttle, we have succeeded in establishing a benchmark in mechanised logistics systems. Our leading market position in this segment has been underpinned by a recent order from Japan, for which Dematic will build the one thousandth Multishuttle and is scheduled for delivery in 2010.”
