Continental Airlines has awarded a contract to Worldwide Flight Services to handle its cargo at Heathrow.
To accommodate this extra business, WFS has rented Building 551, providing a further 60,000 tonnes capacity at in the World Cargocentre at Heathrow.
WFS reckons it is the largest cargo handler at Heathrow. Its overall on-airport and off-airport capacity in London now totals some 250,000 sq ft.
Continental Airlines operates seven flights a day from Heathrow to Newark and Houston using Boeing 777 and 757 aircraft, moving up to 65 tonnes cargo each day.
Continental says it transferred its business to WFS to join forces with its merger partner, United Airlines.
