Discount store Poundland has revealed proposals for a 350,000 sq ft distribution warehouse in Harlow which would create 650 jobs.
The news comes days after Tesco announced that it would be closing its distribution centre in the tow with the loss of 800 jobs owing to the reconfiguration of its supply chain and the opening of two new distribution centres in Dagenham and Reading.
Poundland will invest £40 million in the new facility which will be located on a 20 acre site at the Pinnacles Business Area on Elizabeth Way. A planning application is set to be submitted in the next few months and, if approved, the centre could be open as soon as 2014.
Only last year Poundland opened a 200,000 sq ft distribution facility in Hoddesdon to facilitate its growth in the South East.
