DHL has unveiled a new ground operations facility in Dubai which it reckons is the largest of its kind in the Middle East and North Africa.
The new facility, worth 100 million United Arab Emirates Dirham, is to open in the third quarter of next year and aims to increase speed of service, ensure earlier deliveries and late pick-ups, as well as set new industry benchmarks.
The unveiling took place at an official ceremony at the site within Meydan’s Racecourse district, minutes away from the centre of Dubai.
Frank-Uwe Ungerer, country manager for DHL Express United Arab Emirates (UAE), said: “As the region’s economy goes from strength to strength this new facility marks not only a milestone in the growth of DHL but also of the UAE economy.”
Covering a land area of 185,844 sq ft, the facility includes a 78,285 sq ft indoor sorting and loading area and a 46,648 sq ft office which will become DHL’s new head office.
