Skills for Logistics (SfL) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with China Federation for Logistics and Purchasing (CFLP) and British Council China, which will see all parties co-operate on logistics talent cultivation, standardisation and vocational education.
The document, was signed at Unipart Logistics’ offices in Cowley, Oxfordshire on 12th April.
It is hoped to be a step forward in the development of Sino-UK co-operation on logistics vocational education, for which the next step is to establish a platform facilitating communication between employers, education and training institutions and central government in the two countries.
SfL and CFPL will also collaborate to develop National Occupational Standards for the Chinese logistics sector, aiming to expand and modernise existing standards.
They have agreed to support a pilot project to introduce the UK’s apprenticeship model to the Chinese logistics vocational education sector, where colleges and employers will be selected to take part.
Other future projects include student and employee exchanges, programmes where UK institutions train Chinese teachers at vocational colleges and collaboration on the development of joint curricula.
Susan Milner, director education at the British Council China, said: “Through supporting the development of partnerships between Logistics sector employers, colleges and logistics trainees from China and the UK, this MoU will enhance the provision of skills training and increase employability in both countries.”
