Pub group Punch Taverns has chosen Wincanton for a 10-year contract worth £150 million of logistics spend. The contract will see Wincanton managing the food supply chain to 1,000 Punch managed outlets from distribution centres in Luton and Worsley. Wincanton will spend a further £100 million a year on food purchase on behalf of Punch.
The contract follows Wincanton’s seven-year relationship with Spirit Group, which was acquired by Punch in January 2006.
Simon Ranner, logistics director at Punch Taverns, said: “Punch has bought into a long-term partnership with Wincanton to drive continuous improvements and best practice in the industry. They have a track record of sustained operational excellence and cost control – key elements in meeting Punch Tavern’s aim of helping retailers build better businesses.”
Wincanton will use an IT system, ensuring that each function – including supply management, operations, finance and customer ordering – interfaces seamlessly. Single-stocking at Luton and Worsley will eliminate duplication and minimise stock-holding.
