Toshiba has launched RFID@Toshiba, a system designed to offer a complete end-to-end RFID infrastructure system for customers thinking of adopting the technology.
According to Rob McGregor, business development manager, most companies have kept the concept of RFID at a distance. He said: “Our work with existing clients using RFID technology illustrated an important issue – customers didn’t have the technical knowledge of what was really needed to integrate RFID successfully into their existing businesses.”
Toshiba designed the package to help clients weigh up whether the technology could prove to be a worthwhile investment for the future of their businesses. It will also help define which process or technology best suits a client’s industry or product and will provide a pilot of the system it recommends.
With the project Toshiba plans to build awareness of the benefits and limitations of the technology, and part of the package will be to provide an assessment of the likely expenditure an individual company would make in implementing it, as well as calculating the return of investment.
