The Freight Transport Association (FTA) has told the Eddington study that the most severe threat to efficient freight transport in the UK over the next 30 years will be congestion. This will add cost through the need for additional vehicles, longer lead times, greater stock holdings and eventually the need to relocate distribution centres closer to the point of consumption.
